Dates can be very intimidating and nerve-wracking for anyone! While it’s always a good idea to stay sober throughout your date it’s not a bad idea to have a few drinks to calm your nerves. But what should you get?
Always keep in mind how different liquor affects you. I would recommend choosing liquor that has low alcohol content such as beer or cider (more or less 4% alcohol), or maybe even wine or champagne (10-15%). It will definitely keep most people on their feet and ready for your date!
Next, if you have a pretty decent alcohol tolerance, go for cocktails. Cocktails are a great option as you can customize them according to your preferences. Whether it’s fruity, floral, or even bitter, there is a cocktail out there for you. Choose your base wisely and always start with a single shot of your liquor base. You can always increase it later if you feel the need to or is comfortable. I recommend having a go to drink that’s common enough you can find it anywhere.
Try to avoid doing shots with your date. Especially not shots of tequila. While this may sound like a fun thing to do, always stay safe. You do not want to make decisions you will regret tomorrow when you’re intoxicated. You will want to consent and stay safe to whatever drinking may lead to. Doing shots of tequila or vodka may be a quick and easy way to feel a buzz and not make you nervous but it can have different effects on people with different tolerance levels.
Please never mix your alcohol. Mixing liquor is a one way ticket to getting drunk too quickly which you definitely don’t want to do when you’re on a first date still getting to know someone. It is also not a safe option as some people tend to forget what they do or say when too intoxicated which is unsafe for everyone.
Whatever you may decide to drink on that first date, don’t forget to have fun and set your boundaries straight. Communication is key in managing expectations and drawing a line to keep things safe and civil for everyone.
