Fruit Basket: The best anime for starters

I wasn’t a fan of anime before, but my friends are always super-duper-crazy anime lovers. They never fail to show their obsession with both series and stand-alone anime movies, which is why they are my motivation to dive into anime.

It is very important to pick the one which meets a person’s likes when it is the first time for that person, or else, he or she will decide that it is not their type. And for anime starters, I would like to recommend the Fruit Basket anime series.

Summary of the series

Fruit baskets starts with Tohru, a high school student, walking through the forest. Then she unexpectedly met Yuki, a prince charming of her school, together with his cousin, Shigure at their house located within the forest. Later, Yuki and Shigure found out that Tohru was living in a tent within their property without any proper facilities, and they offered to let her stay with them for some time.

On the second day of her staying at their house, Kyo Kun, who wasn’t on good terms with Yuki, crashed through the roof and challenged Yuki for a fight. To stop their fight, Tohru quickly ran toward Kyo Kun, but she was tripped over something and fell onto Kyo Kun, which changed him into a cat. 

From that moment on, Tohru found out about the Sohma family and the curse. And day by day, as she met the members of the Sohma family, she started to have love and sympathy for Sohma members and vice versa. 

Personal review

Fruit Basket is a manga and anime series. Which has an excellent and compelling plot with all the awesome, handsome, and funny characters. But most of all, the theme behind the plot is what makes the series the most marvelous one. 

Every member of the Sohma family is feeling insecure about not being normal. They are labeled as outcasts even by their Sohma leader because they are different from other human beings. Although some members are embraced with love, most members are hungry for the love of their parents; who didn’t even dare to glance at them. This in turn gives them a traumatic past. And amid their tragedy and miseries, Tohru comes in and brings the light along with her. 

Some dialogues are quite heart-touching that it is worth replaying the series three times. There is not only sorrow in Fruit Basket. There are also some funny and cute scenes, which will make you laugh out loud. 

To sum up, Fruit Basket is a must-watch anime series. With an excellent plot, compelling characters, exquisite dialogues, and entertaining scenes. I 100% recommend this anime series to those who want to start watching anime.
