Free Guy: A Refreshment In Movie Industry

Well, we can see during a pandemic, the movie industry gained momentum by releasing a lot of movies that will gain many audiences for watching them. We can see also some old movies are being remade with a new cast. I want to watch a fresh idea not just remade from the previous one. Free Guy can answer my expectation.

Ryan Reynolds is associated with Deadpool in many ways. The way he acts, talks, moves, or even interacts with other people are similar to Deadpool. We often think that Ryan is suitable only for Deadpool.

In Free Guy, he can break that stigma by acting as NPC in the film. Ryan plays Guy, artificial intelligence that is placed in the Free City game that only serves one purpose, does nothing. We know NPC is a non-playable character in a game that is built for fun. The player can kill it or just ignore it.

The guy in this movie begins to rob a gamer’s glasses and begins to feel he can change the boring routines that he must do every day. This movie is funny and the first fresh idea for this movie.  I try to search for another movie that has a similar idea, only Ready Player One that discusses a similar approach but different ideas.

And, for Ryan Reynolds, this is also a refreshment role from Deadpool. He can convince audiences if the blue-shirt guy is destined for him. In this film, he convinces that everybody can change their life. Reynolds can execute the Guy role with good performance through monotonous gestures.

Another reason why I call this movie a refreshment is because we already have all genres in the film that are aired these days. We need something different or original for our thirst. And, Reynolds as the producer of this movie comes with a new direction that nobody can predict.

And, this film is standalone which means not based on pre-existing or sequel. All casts must go out in an old-fashioned way. We know Reynolds has a lot of experiences from universes and sequels, but this is new for him, and without doubt, he nailed it.
