With the international break (mostly) over, Premier League football is finally back. And with the Premier League coming back, it means it is time to set up your teams for the upcoming Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 8.
Unavailable Players
Due to the international break, many players, mainly from South America, cannot make it to their next fixtures due to travel times. This provides us with a problem, as there are many high-value players on this list. For this week, we’ll just have to make do with what we have and work our way around them. The players potentially unavailable for this week’s fixtures are:
- Alisson (Liv)
- Fabinho (Liv)
- Ederson (MCI)
- Gabriel Jesus (MCI)
- Raphinha (Leeds)
- Fred (MUN)
- Edinson Cavani (MUN)
- Emerson Royal (Spurs)
- Cristian Romero (Spurs)
- Davinson Sanchez (Spurs)
- Giovani Lo Celso (Spurs)
- Douglas Luiz (AV)
- Emi Martinez (AV)
- Yerry Mina (Everton)
- Thiago Silva (Chelsea)
- Miguel Almiron (Newcastle)
Captain Predictions
First, let’s take a look at the potential captain choices for Gameweek 8. With Manchester City and Liverpool both having good fixtures this week, we think it would be wise to put either Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m) and Mohamad Salah (£12.7m) as your captain. Spurs’ Son (£10m) and Harry Kane (£12.5m) also look like good candidates, but the former two have been slightly more reliable.
Forward Predictions
With Spurs looking to beat Newcastle in the next fixture, Kane seems promising, if you’re willing to cough up the cash for him. For a cheaper alternative, Maupay (£6.5m) looks like a good pick, considering Brighton will be going against 20th-placed Norwich. Jamie Vardy (£10.5) could also be a good pick if you want to take the risk. Leicester will be going against a weakened Manchester United defense, potentially missing both Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane.
Midfield Predictions
In midfield, we think it would be best to stick with the basics. As we mentioned earlier, Liverpool and Manchester City both have good fixtures this week, which leads us to think Salah and De Bruyne would make for the perfect midfield choices. For a budget option, we recommend Emile Smith Rowe (£5.4), who had an assist from their last match against Spurs.

Defence Predictions
In defence, Manchester City looks as attractive as ever, with their duo of Joao Cancelo (£6.2m) and Ruben Dias (£6.1m) only conceding three goals this season. Kieran Tierney (£4.9m) and Lucas Digne (£5.3m) are our picks for the budget option in defence.
Goalkeeper Predictions
With Alisson and Ederson probably unavailable this week, we turn to Chelsea’s Mendy (£6m) to be our main choice. Other alternatives include Martinez (£5.5m) and Ramsdale (£4.6m) being the cheapest option.
With the Premier League as unpredictable as ever, these are only our predictions. Feel free to use them in your teams, but we can’t guarantee everyone performs.
