Film Review: Jungle Cruise (2021)

Jungle Cruise is a 2021 Disney film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. It is based on the story by Glenn Ficarra, John Requa, and Michael Green. The film stars Dwayne Johnson as Frank Wolff, Emily Blunt as Lily Houghton, Édgar Ramírez as Aguirre, Jack Whitehall as Macgregor Houghton, Jesse Plemons as Prince Joachim, and Paul Giamatti as Nilo. It is scheduled to be released on July 30, 2021. The story follows the journey of a group of Spanish conquistadores tasked on conquering the Amazon jungle and its mysterious powers. They discover that a tree deep in the jungle can cure any illness or break a curse.

The Jungle Cruise, which debuted in 1955, is one of the longest-running attractions at Disneyland. It involves a journey across South America and Southeast Asia aboard a steamer that’s equipped with an onboard crew. The central elements of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ films are rarely in danger of being drowned out by the writers’ efforts to drown them in over-plotting. Despite the jokes, the movie is still not very family-friendly. It doesn’t quite have the humor that many of his other films have.

Jungle Cruise is a spin-off of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise that has been in the works for over 15 years. It has been written by Michael Green and John Requa and are set to begin production in 2006. Though it’s targeted at kids, there’s a lot of room for improvement here. As with most Disney movies, the appeal of these films will appeal to adults. A lot of the time, the story feels like it was written haphazardly. It’s mainly due to the number of characters and the complexity of the story that it lacks. The ride has plenty of charm, but it lacks the depth of storytelling that makes it stand out.

Despite that, this Disney adventure movie is a well-upholstered, well-shot, and well-executed. It features plenty of action and action scenes, and it’s got a great score by James Newton Howard.

Though it’s not as big a draw as some of the other movies in this genre, it’s still worth noting that many of these are rated R.
