Fans of Lady Gaga are overjoyed that Harley Quinn has been cast in Joker 2.

Many of Lady Gaga’s fans are overjoyed that she will play Harley Quinn in the forthcoming musical Joker: Folie à Deux.

Lady Gaga has been confirmed to co-star in Joker: Folie à Deux, the planned sequel to Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker. With Todd Phillips returning to the director’s chair, the picture acts as a sequel to the successful 2019 film, but with a twist. While the original was a psychological thriller with little music, Joker: Folie à Deux will be a straight-up musical, allowing Gaga to showcase her singing abilities as the popular supervillain.

“I didn’t know how much I needed Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in my life,” one tweet says.

Another admirer predicts, “The way people are going to rush to Joker 2 because of Lady Gaga. Such a great choice to cast her as Harley Quinn. She confirmed herself as a butts-in-seats movie star with House of Gucci.”

Given that it’s a musical, the tone of the Joker sequel would be significantly different from the original, but director Todd Phillips has previously stated that he’d only do a sequel if it had a “thematic resonance” evocative of the first picture. Back in 2019, when Phillips was still debating whether or not to pursue part two, he told the Los Angeles Times about his preliminary concepts for the sequel.

“It couldn’t just be this insane film about the Clown Prince of Crime,” Phillips explained. “It would have to have some thematic resonance in the same way that [the original] does, because I think that’s ultimately why the movie connected; it’s what’s going on underneath.” So many movies are about the spark, and this is about the powder. It would be interesting if you could capture that again in a real way.
