British Ministers, Ben Wallace, and Priti Patel have been the victims of hoax calls regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Wallace said that he received a call where they were posing as the Minister of Ukraine, he said that those calls are part of the Russian tricks. Patel added through her social networks confirming that she was the recipient of a similar call.
She said, “This also happened to me earlier this week. Pathetic attempt at such difficult times to divide us. We stand with Ukraine”.
On his Twitter profile, Wallace wrote: “No amount of Russian disinformation, distortion, and dirty tricks can distract from Russia’s human rights abuses and illegal invasion of Ukraine. A desperate attempt.”
The facts indicate that Wallace called a 10-minute video call, after receiving an email from the Ukrainian embassy in London. During the call, someone posed as the Ukrainian Minister Denys Shmyhal in front of a Ukrainian flag.
The person was asking Wallace “wild questions,” on topics such as NATO and the state of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
Shmyhal tweeted that same day: “Despite all Russian disinformation attempts, the world can see that the truth is behind Ukraine.”
The concern now is that the answers given by Wallace can be edited, and misrepresented, seeking to extort money from the minister and deceive the population.
The identity or reason for these calls is unknown, but Wallace claims the connection is to the war. There is an open investigation to find the person who made the call, and the location where it came from.
