Earthquakes Hit Malang And Yogyakarta, Indonesia

 

An earthquake had a magnitude of M 5.3 on the Richter scale with a depth of 33 km was felt by residents in East Java. The earthquake was centered at 9.84 latitudes, 112.51 east longitude or 78 km southwest of Malang Regency on Friday (22/10/2021) at 9.21 am. Quoting from the Twitter page @infoBMKG, BMKG emphasized that there is no potential for a tsunami.

 

“The epicenter of the earthquake was 78 km west of Malang Regency, with a depth of 33 km,” said Ma’muri as Head of Malang Geophysics Station.

 

One resident said that the earthquake that occurred in Malang lasted for 4 seconds. This caused residents to panic. The students who were in school were forced to leave the classroom for fear of falling debris from the building.

 

People in Blitar, East Java felt the earthquake that occurred this morning. Many people rushed out of their houses when they heard a loud banging on the roof of the house. Furthermore, the earthquake was also felt by residents bordering the Malang Regency area. The earthquake shook the hanging kitchen utensils and made several wooden houses in Wates Sub-district make a creaking sound.

 

An earthquake also occurred in the southern region of Yogyakarta after the one that happened in Malang. The earthquake was centered in the waters south of Yogyakarta, precisely south of Gunungkidul Regency. The location of the earthquake is 0.052LS, 110,44821 East Longitude or 118 km southwest of Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta.

 

According to information from BMKG Yogyakarta Twitter @bmkgjogja, the earthquake occurred at 9.39 am. This happened not long after the earthquake hit the south of Java Island on the east side or in Malang. The earthquake in Yogyakarta had a magnitude of M 4.8 on the Richter scale.
