To humans, chocolate is tasty. However, for cats, chocolate can kill them. Chocolate has a substance called methylxanthines. It can cause diarrhea, vomiting, muscle tremors, abnormal heart rhythm, increased thirst, and seizures. Besides chocolate, caffeinated drinks also contain methylxanthines. If you have some chocolate or caffeinated drinks in your house, please store them in the place where your cat can’t find them.
Raw Meat and Egg
Meat and egg are rich in protein, a nutrient that cats need most. However, raw meat and egg can contain Salmonella and E. coli bacteria. The two bacteria, if consumed by the cat, can poison it. Raw eggs also have an enzyme called avidin that can lead to skin and hair problems.
Fun fact, the majority of cats are lactose intolerant. Their digestive system can’t process dairy products. Dairy products can cause diarrhoea and an upset stomach for your cat.
If you are a baker or like to bake, make sure you don’t put your raw dough where your cat can reach it. The raw dough will expand within time, so if your cat accidentally consumes it, the raw dough will enlarge inside your cat’s digestive system.
