“Documentary Now!” : History’s Biggest Stories Spoofed

Unlike other spoofs and satirical series, the comedy show Documentary Now consists of full episode parodies of documentaries themselves with an excellent star cast in each. Fantastic video footage as well as interviews make up the so-called documentary reports of topics such as cults and their following, creation of musical recordings and comic strips, and the lifestyle and promotions of sports and music figures. 

However, these videos parodying well-known documentaries go even further, exposing some of our history’s most famous documentaries. Among these are “The War Room” which covers the 1992 presidential campaign, “Grey Gardens” which relays the lives of an eccentric mother and daughter living in their crumbling mansion, and “The Thin Blue Line”, telling the story of a murder case involving perjury, lies, and corruption. 

Each episode takes a distinct comic perspective to some of history’s most compelling and, at times, inadvertently absurd documentaries, as well as the tales and events they strive to capture over the decades. Every episode has its own time capsule moments, revealing the culture and humor of our distinct decades, the perspectives and mindsets along the way, revealed in satirical, dramatic interviews, camera views, and humorous emotional close-ups. 

Documentary Now! is for anyone interested in history lovingly parodied, fun poked at the absurd times and big events known to our generations, and those who documented and reported them. The show is also uniquely filmed, in present known style as well as aged to the roots of film and news themselves, giving it even more interest and touching comedy in context through its current third season.
