Declutter Your Bedroom In Five Easy Steps

Have you thought about having a clear-out recently? Are you rapidly running out of storage space? As the season turns from Spring to Summer, now is the perfect opportunity to get rid of some of the things cluttering up your bedroom. The question is, where do you start?

Below are five helpful steps to transform your room into the space you need it to be.

1) Sort through old clothes

One of the biggest perpetrators of clutter tends to be the number of clothes we own. Though it often seems like you have nothing to wear, when you take the time to sort through everything, you’re likely to find many old items, damaged, or don’t fit anymore. Anything that is still wearable could be donated to charity or sold. The rest can be recycled, upcycled, or if necessary, binned.

2) Organise your shoes

Arrange all the shoes you have together and then go through each pair to decide if you want to keep them, donate them, sell them, or bin them. Afterward, either set aside a specific space for them to go or invest in a shoe rack for the ultimate organizational setup.

3) Rearrange your drawers

Once your clothes are sorted, take the time to put them back in the drawers in a systematic way. For example, the top drawer could hold underwear and hygiene products, the bottom drawer could hold pajamas/nightwear, and drawers in-between can be assigned to items such as t-shirts, jeans, leggings, shirts, and dresses. The top of the drawers can also be organized so that make-up, deodorant, candles and anything else you may like to have on there is neat.

4) Clear floor space

Hopefully, your efforts at clearing out have resulted in more space in your wardrobe or drawers, so it is now time to assess what you have out on the floor or even on the bed that could be put away. The increased storage space should be enough to hold items such as excess shoes, books, cushions, or decorations that no longer fit the theme of the room.

5) Look through old decorations

Following on from the last point, take a look around at the decor of your room and decide what should stay and what should go. If you’re interested in changing the theme of your room entirely, now is the perfect time to get rid of the old decor and start anew. Otherwise, take anything that looks old, dirty, or out of place and either clean and store it, donate it, or place it in another, more appropriate room.
