While announcing the series’ November 24 debut date on Disney+, Marvel Studios released a first look at Hailee Steinfeld and Jeremy Renner in Hawkeye.
Renner returns as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, and Steinfeld makes her MCU debut as Kate Bishop, another archer from the comics.
Following Loki, Hawkeye is the next live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe show set to premiere on Disney+, and the name doesn’t only relate to founding Avenger Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner). Hawkeye will bring Clint face to face with a younger female archer, played by Hailee Steinfeld, as shown in the first-look shot below.
“[Kate is] a 22-year-old kid and she is a big Hawkeye fan,” Renner tells Entertainment Weekly. “She has a wonderfully annoying and equally charming manner about her, because she’s such a fangirl of Hawkeye. The relationship grows from that, but the biggest problem for Clint is Kate Bishop and the onslaught of problems that she brings into his life.”
Kate Bishop originally appeared in Marvel’s Young Avengers comics in the 2000s, created by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung. Clint Barton (the character played by Renner) died in the comics, and Kate Bishop inherited the mantle of Hawkeye. He did return, though, thanks to the magic of comic books, and the two co-starred in the Hawkeye solo comic by Matt Fraction and David Aja, which ran from 2012 to 2015.
Furthermore, with the November 24 premiere date, any rumors that Ms. Marvel would be coming on Disney+ in 2021 are likely to be debunked. The conclusion of a six-week Hawkeye run would be on December 29. With an Assembled the following week, Ms. Marvel may debut as early as January 12.
