Cebu City’s Candidate Beatrice Luigi Gomez Crowned as 2021 Miss Universe Philippines: First Openly Gay Winner

Metro Manila, Philippines – First openly gay candidate (in the history of Miss Universe) from Cebu City, Beatrice Luigi Gomez, was the winner of Miss Universe Philippines 2021. The LGBTQIA+ community celebrated her victory as well as her freedom.

During preliminary interviews, the 26 year-old lady shared that she is in a long-term, same-sex relationship.

The competition started with over a hundred hopefuls. After several challenges, 28 ladies, who were fighting for the prestigious crown of Miss Universe Philippines, were chosen. There were virtual challenges for the span of three months, and the live coronation in Bohol happened for over a week.

Among the judges were Sam Versoza, CEO and Co-Founder of FRONTROW Philippines, Dr. Vicki Belo, Founder and Medical Director of Belo Medical Group, and Sheila Romero, Vice Chairman of Air Asia Philippines.

Gomez, during the coronation night, said she was confident that the Philippines is ready for a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community to be sent to a distinguished event such as Miss Universe pageant.

In addition, Beatrice Luigi Gomez also won four special awards: Best in Evening Gown, Best in Swimsuit, Miss Cream Silk and Miss Luxxe Immunplus Game Changer. Gomez, as the Miss Universe Philippines 2021, will compete in the international pageant which will be held on December in Israel.
