Silicon valley famous billionaire Peter Thiel has invested in a company that implants computer chips into people’s brains.
Thiel recently backed a firm called Blackrock Neurotech in a $10 million financing round, buying an undisclosed percentage of equity.
Blackrock Neurotech was founded in 2008 and its headquarters are located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The company have been selling neuro science software and hardware to many companies over the decade
Blackrock Neurotech CEO Marcus Gerhardt said that they’re in a nice profitable niche market. And the company has been profitable since 2015.
Up till 2020 the CEO claims that the company struggles to take on new contracts and decided to take in an Investor.
Blackrock Neurotech have around 80 staff members, and have been working on their own brain computer interface (BCI) devices.
Among other BCI divisions is Elon Musk’s Neuralink, which was founded much later in 2016.
Comparing both companies Blackrock Neurotech claims to have a head start in market traction compared to the centi billionaire Elon Musk.
Although Elon’s Neuralink recently showed how it’s divide has enabled a monkey to play video games in April. Blackrock Neurotech have already placed it’s devices into around 28 patients across USA, China and Europe.
Peter Thiel has many successful investments under his portfolio. Such as being the early investor of Facebook, Co founded Paypal and Palantir.
Doesn’t matter which company or which investor wins, in this new technology niche. Experts believe that the real winner will be humanity as this technology has limitless potential.
