We love to watch a wonderful love story that inspires us to believe in love. From classic rom-coms to heart-breaking tragedies that will break your heart into pieces, leaving you in a mess. We all enjoy making ourselves suffer from time to time, so I’ve compiled a list of the top 5 romantic films to watch when you need to cry.

 

Me Before You (2016)

 

In my judgment, the saddest romance film ever made. Emilia Clarke dazzles in this film, and we can’t help but be smitten by her endearing humor and bright smile. It’s sunshine and a grumpy trope which we all love. Our hearts are warm as we watch the two fall in love, which makes it even more tragic when her love isn’t enough for him, leading to the saddest ending in romance history.

 

Five Feet Apart (2019)

 

Two teenagers fall in love with one another in this compelling story suited for fans of John Green and Jenny Han, with one tiny complication: they can’t go within five feet of each other without endangering their lives. This movie portrays the true battle of foreign romance as they fight to keep their distance from each other as don’t want to hurt each other. To make your heart hurt, even more, the main character was based on a real person called Claire Wineland who suffered from Cystic Fibrosis and sadly passed away.

 

Call Me By Your Name (2017)

 

A beautiful coming-of-age story about a teen’s hidden summer affair with his father’s graduate student. The age difference, the tension, and the private moments between the two characters make this a love story worth your time. Of course, like most summer romances, it doesn’t last long.

 

Titanic (1997)

 

Titanic, the ultimate tragic romance story, is, of course, included in this list. If you’ve never heard of the Titanic, it’s about a young lady who is engaged to a very wealthy man but falls in love with a commoner known as Jack Dawson. However, the Titanic is also falling as it begins to sink and the two must fight to stay alive. The devastating ending of this film will leave you in tears and heartbreak.

A Walk To Remember is another gem. The classic good girl/bad boy story takes center stage. Jamie is an outcast at her school because she is the modest and kind daughter of the local preacher. Landon is the complete polar opposite. He is well-liked, defiant, and unconcerned about anything. The suspense, gradual burn, and transformation from friends to lovers make this a heartbreaking story about an unexpected pair that have a lot more in common than they realize.
