Valhalla is an amazing PC game that follows in the footsteps of its similarly excellent predecessors, Origins and Odyssey, despite not introducing anything entirely new to the franchise.

 

Genesis Noir

Genesis Noir is a cosmic point-and-click mystery about life’s meaning, death’s tragedy, the universe’s creation, and jazz. Yes, it’s terribly pretentious, yet it works in a way that draws you in rather than pushing you away. It has great ambitions and isn’t hesitant to go all out to achieve them, with subtlety and vision that makes even the most obscure decisions feel powerful. With a noir-ish black-and-white color scheme occasionally broken up by flashes of color, fantastic character designs, and an atmospheric jazz tune that complements it well, it’s also the most stylish game of the year. It’s one of the year’s most gorgeous and captivating games.

 

Before Your Eyes

Before Your Eyes isn’t a gimmick, so don’t dismiss it. Yes, it’s the blinking game—you play it by blinking your eyes in front of a webcam—but there’s a lot more going on here than mechanical nonsense. With its emphasis on the journey of a recently dead man into the afterlife, the game looks back on the main character’s fairly ordinary life and the major relationships that affected it, and the story is generally well-told enough to avoid the cheap, maudlin sentimentality you might expect. The blinking contributes more to the game’s power than you may think, although you can always play it with a mouse if you don’t want to use your webcam. Before Your Eyes is a quiet, quiet game with a big emotional punch.

 

Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil 7 rescued the series from its action-heavy abyss four years ago, returning to the survival horror foundations of jump scares and intricate riddles; utilizing ugly oil paintings. Village now aims to reintroduce parts of the gunplay from Resident Evil 4 while maintaining the same level of tension and fear. As a result, fans will enjoy a charmingly schlocky survival horror adventure that makes frequent nods to previous games.

Hitman 3

It’s like being put into a random improv scene when you play Hitman 3. You’re continuously switching parts, objectives, and outfits, making sure to stay in character until your target is eliminated. Every stage is a show, and each one is unique and entertaining. You play as Agent 47, a world-class executioner who, as a result of his profession, is surrounded by a thick cloud of tension and death around every corner. Hitman 3 has proven to be a well-crafted assassination sandbox with plenty of tension, fashion, and possibilities.
