This winter, KBS will release a new web drama about the struggle life of an idol starring ASTRO’s Rocky. Quoted from Soompi, last Friday (12/10), ASTRO’s agency, Fantagio confirmed that Rocky will be featured in the upcoming web drama Salty Idol and will play the lead male role, Hwiyeon.
Hwiyeon is an artist who later joins the second-generation idol group, XPierce. The group’s first album managed to get on the music chart again, which made XPierce very popular. Since Hwiyeon is not participating in the first album, he was excluded by XPierce’s fans. He needs to experience the hardship in the idol world.
Hwiyeon was depicted as an independent character with a strong will. He always tries to solve his own problems by himself. We will see how Rocky’s Hwiyeon will struggle with life and financial hardship. Although the drama sounds desperate, Salty Idol is also a comedy web drama, and Rocky will do his best to bring out this element.
This E&M production’s web drama was written by Kim Seong Jin and directed by Kim Hyeon Soo. Salty Idol is scheduled to air this winter (around December – January) on KBS.
Rocky is ASTRO’s main dancer and rapper who debuted in 2016 with five other members under the Fantagio agency. Since its debut, ASTRO has won several awards. According to CNN, they won New Wave Award Asia Artist Awards 2017, Best Male Performance Award Golden Disc Awards (2020), and K-Pop Artist Award Korean Culture Entertainment Awards (2020).
Before starring in Salty Idol, ASTRO’s Rocky has been featured in numerous web series, such as Hyangjeon of Youth (2021), Find Me If You Can (2021), Soul Plate (2019), and To Be Continued (2015).
