Alec Baldwin Accidentally Killed A Cinematographer On “Rust” Movie Set

The tragic incident occurred while shooting a film in New Mexico starring American actor Alec Baldwin. The actor accidentally fired a property gun on set, killing a Rust film cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, and injuring director Joel Souza.

 

This shooting incident began when the actor and the production crew did the shooting process for an independent feature film that took place at Bonanza Creek Ranch, Santa Fe, Thursday (21/10) United States time. According to the sheriff’s office, the incident involved a gun being used as a 19th-century prop.

 

“Shot when a property gun was fired by Alec Baldwin,” the sheriff said in a statement.

 

The spokesman for the sheriff said the director, Souza, 48, is currently in critical condition after being taken in an ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center. Meanwhile, Hutchins (42) was transported to the University of New Mexico by helicopter, but the woman died of her injuries.

 

Alec Baldwin came voluntarily to be interviewed by detectives for this tragic incident. He gave statements and answered various questions given.

 

“Mr. Baldwin was interviewed by detectives. He gave statements and answered their questions. He came voluntarily and left the building after completing his interview. No charges were filed and no arrests were made,” Santa Fe sheriff spokesman Juan Rios told AFP.

 

The spokesman also said the Sheriff’s Office was interviewing people on set to determine how the two were shot.

 

After the incident, Alec Baldwin said he had contacted Hutchins’ husband to provide support to the bereaved family. He also expressed his regret through a post on his personal Twitter page.

 

“My heart breaks for my husband, their son, and everyone who knows and loves Halyna,” he said.

 

The actor said he was shocked and saddened by the tragedy. The 63-year-old actor is committed to cooperating with the police investigating the incident.

 

“There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours. I am fully cooperating with the police investigation to discuss how this tragedy occurred,” he said in the tweet of the official Twitter account @alecbaldwin, Friday (22/10).

 

Local newspaper The Santa Fe New Mexico said its reporters had seen the actor cry after he was questioned by investigators, and published photos of Baldwin looking distraught after the tragedy.
