Roaches are a menace! The sight of them alone irritates even the strongest men.
Unfortunately, they’re common pests and often invade the home, making themselves comfortable in dark corners, cracks, vents, pipes, or even furniture. If you notice an invasion of cockroaches in your home or apartment, you must get rid of them fast before it becomes an infestation.
There are more than 4500 species of cockroaches in the world. Only 69 species exist in the US. However, most of these species do not invade homes. The roaches likely to be found indoors are the German Cockroaches, American Cockroaches, and Brown Banded Cockroaches.
Whichever type is found in your home, one thing is certain, you don’t want them there! Because apart from being an eyesore, roaches spread diseases. The following are home remedies confirmed to be effective in getting rid of roaches.
1. Baking Soda
The use of baking soda is a quick and easy way to get rid of roaches in the home. Simply, dice a handful of onions and sprinkle with baking soda. Place on a shallow dish for easy access to cockroaches, in their active spots.
2. Boric Acid
Boric acid is found in plants and fruits. It is not harmful to humans, and pets but can kill roaches. Dust a little onto a paper plate, put an orange peel or peanut butter in the middle, and place it where you’ve noticed roaches’ activity.
A mixture of borax and white sugar in equal portions is a quick remedy for getting rid of roaches. It’ll dehydrate them and kill them.
This doesn’t kill the roaches but it is an effective repellent. Add a few drops of lemon juice to the water you use to mop the floors or clean surfaces. The smell will repel and drive them away from your home.
Roaches are omnivores and consume anything. Easy sources of food like dirty dishes or garbage will attract them so make sure to keep your home clean always and take out the trash.
