2021 World Best Cheese Goes To Spanish Goat Cheese

 The World Cheese Awards is an annual event held to find the best types of cheese in the world. The event is being held as part of the Asturias Paraíso Natural Internacional Cheese Festival from 3 – 6 November 2021. Cheeses are shipped from around the world for grading in one day by a carefully assembled team of technical experts, buyers, retailers, and food writers.

 

 This year, the 33rd World Cheese Awards were held in Oviedo, Spain. Goat cheese from Spain is crowned as the best cheese in the world by the 2021 World Cheese Awards. This cheese is made from goat’s milk named Olavidia. This Goat Cheese is fermented with Penicillium candidum fungus and olive stone ash, producing unique black stripes in the middle. The judges said this cheese has a rich and soft texture.

 

Jason Hinds, one of the judges of the World Cheese Awards, said that this goat cheese deserves to be a winner. “Rich, seductive, creamy texture,” he said. “It feels thorough and warm,” added Hinds, as cited by CNN Travel (4/11).

 

 The cheese is produced by Quesos y Besos (Cheese and Kisses). They managed to rank first after defeating 4,079 participants from 45 countries to get the title.
