Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), National Taiwan University (NTU), and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) claim to have made a breakthrough in semiconductor processing by enabling the 1nm chip.
Staying as the dominant leader in chip manufacturing, TSMC is the main CPU manufacturer for AMD which currently has a supply shortage due to the pandemic.
Imagine the world with 1nm chips in GPU and CPU.
Current generation GPU and CPU are on 7nm processes. Imagine if we can fit 7 times more transistors into those chips, how much power will a personal computer have and how much more power that server will have.
896 cores in a single CPU? Possible?
The most powerful CPU currently has 128 core and 258 Threads. The AMD EPYC7763 is widely considered as a monster and it’s only on 7nm. Imagine having 7x times the power and the efficiency in a single server rack. That is a future I would like to see.
Forget about servers for a moment, imagine a desktop PC with 100+ cores. Everyone and anyone will be able to run very powerful websites or apps from their home network. The future is looking bright for everyone.
