1990s hit film ‘Forrest Gump’ to get a Bollywood remake

Gotcha! If you’re a 90s kid who loved watching movies back in the day, chances are, you have become all too familiar with this iconic line. It’s from the hit film Forrest Gump but this time, with an Indian twist.

The upcoming Bollywood remake of the 1994 multi-award-winning cult classic, Laal Singh Chaddha, earned Tom Hanks two Best Actor Oscars and a Golden Globe,

Aamir Khan, a well-known actor and Three Idiots co-star, will play Laal, the Indian version of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump. Along with his ex-wife Kiran Rao, Viacom18 Studios, and Paramount Pictures, he also produced the film.

 

Khan first debuted the concept in March 2019 and released its trailer last Sunday, July 31 at the 2022 Indian Premier League final.

 

Laal Singh Chaddha, according to khan, is a remake of Forrest Gump that shows the “amazing life of an ordinary man… through the lens of India’s modern history and culture.”

 

Laal’s journey of love, innocence, and destiny is followed as he overcomes life’s many challenges, as stated in the book’s official synopsis: “With a childhood marked by a special bond between Laal and his single mother, tempered with strong values, the story reminds us that everyone, even the most unlikely of people, has a story.”

 

Along with Khan, fellow Three Idiots actor Kapoor Khan plays Laal’s romantic interest Rupa in the film, and Laal’s mother is played by Mona Singh.

 

The main character’s childhood leg disability, his military service during the war, and his years of running across the country are all famous features from the original American film that Laal Singh Chaddha has adapted. The movie was filmed in more than 100 sites in India, according to the IGN report.
